This was a response comment but apparently that function isn’t working at the moment on my site.

Regarding travelling so much this year, it’s not my fault your continent has so many interesting things all squashed together and a lot of cheap airlines!!  :)

Regarding our strange forms of recreation, the funny thing is I actually prefer camping to staying in a fancy hotel in most instances… to live outside and to have to plan and think about the survival details like where you’re going to fill up your waterbottle or if the nightfall will come while you’re on the cliffs makes me feel more alive and more connected with the living world. Western life is too detached and easy in some ways; “sleeping in the mud” is an unusual and interesting experience every time! I like to have a variety of experiences and learn as much as possible because it makes life seem longer. This last year probably takes up more room in my head than the last four years at university in Ottawa.

Of course the raspa within me is always satisfied with myself when I have a very happy evening and night outside and realize I’ve saved enough money to have yet another such weekend in the future! We certainly couldn’t have done all this travelling without a bit of financial creativity!

Re: not seeing many museums, a weekend of all museums and attractions makes your feet sore and you irritated at all the tourists and the tourist-vultures, and there’s only so much you can really absorb properly. You also only see a certain level of the country you are visiting - the on-show-for-tourists level rather than the real life or the nature levels, and of course you lose a lot of money. Doing all sports outdoors means you get tired and sore all over, you are subject to weather, and you miss the culture and history of where you are (except usually our hikes or bike trips have an historical destination!). My ideal holiday therefore has a mix - some outside sporty and nature activity for health, nature and a sense of accomplishment, and preferably after having learned something of the local history so I can appreciate the places we see, and for a break or when the weather is bad, we pick our tourist attractions carefully and spend time enjoying and learning things in detail!

Most likely see you soon I guess, we’re in Milan next weekend. Per vedere tutti tuoi uccelli tropicali è pesci cancerosi… hehehhe…
